TRIBUTO, Almeirim, Portugal
A sentimental project planted in 1 hectare given to me by my father, to "experiment"
First harvest in 2004
This is a small personal project, of only 2,000 bottles. The wine I idealized to make to show a “different path” for Ribatejo’s red wines: complex, fresh, soft and elegant. It started in 2001, with the planting of vines in Charneca de Almeirim, in very poor and pebbly soils. With grape varieties inspired by Cotes de Rhone - Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Viognier - low technology and "premium" French oak barrels. Throughout the process of soil selection, preparation and vine planting, my father, a lifetime winemaker, played a key role. Unfortunately he would not live long enough to see this dream come through. So this wine got a different meaning. And his name: Tributo (tribute).
